"You're Next"
You’re Next – Zach Crouch
“You’re Next” is a Hip –Hop inspired single I made to tell the story of influence inside of a dysfunctional household. I made this song around the idea that those you spend the most time around influence you the most. In this case it’s a child telling you about his/her experiences with no mother and a drug addicted father. Eventually he/she becomes part of the cycle. Which gave me the idea for the title “You’re Next”. Hinting that they eventually become the thing they are trying to avoid in the lyrics. I reference the main character as “they” because I tried not to specify the gender. That way both boys and girls can put themselves in the story. I know the song seems to end negatively, but the song itself is meant to be a warning. Overall I feel it strongly relays the message in a way that my peers will truly hear and understand.
Then we have the instrumental used for the song. When writing the story, I almost imagined a 1960’s setting. Before writing I usually imagine some type of scene in my head, which usually helps me create the beginning lyrics. This particular song made me imagine a child looking out a window, seeing their dad waiting on the corner of the street. So I wanted something jazzy and emotional. The instrumental is a 90’s inspired beat, but it put me in a very 1960s mood.
This song falls into the electronic manipulation category and is made entirely of loops and samples. Throughout the entire thing you hear a strong snare, and a basic heavy drum pattern. Following the majestic saxophone playing softly in the background. Every 16 bars or so you’ll get the soft FX and bells to cue the chorus of the song which joins my monotone voice with a slight double effect. I recorded all of this in an Apple exclusive music program called “ Logic Pro X” All the effects and loops/samples and mastering tools were from that program as well. I used a Blue Yeti Microphone to transmit the vocals into the program.
This song came from a very personal side of me. So making this song sound emotional was a must. I worked very hard to make this and enjoyed every minute of it. I hope you enjoyed the final product. Thank you for the opportunity. I am releasing my first album soon.

"Diner Symphony"
My song is about a relationship gone sour and the process of getting over someone that you thought was special. The title Diner Symphony comes from a tradition my friends and I have of trying to get together every month at a diner to talk about things and catch up. I wanted to write a song that is catchy but still carries emotion and tells a story because I love to write music that people can connect with. I wrote the song myself and then checked out a microphone from my school and brought it home and recorded the guitar and vocals into my mac and then edited the sound quality, adjusted the lows, mids, and highs, of the audio. I also changed the volume and adjusted the tracks so that they blended together well using extra modifications like reverb and the gain of the audio. I recorded the drums in garage band and edited the volume to make them blend with the rest of the song well.
