"Pride Rock"
When creating my piece I began by opening a new image in Adobe Photoshop CS5 with a height13 of and a width of 9.4. After that I opened, in a separate file, a picture that I took of my friend, Matt Rossoll, running. Over that layer I opened another layer and traced the outline of Matt and his shirt, jeans, etc using a Bamboo Wacom Tablet. I proceeded by decreasing the opacity of my brush to match the severity of the creases in Matt’s clothes and hair. I then deleted the original image and was left with a transparent outline. I wanted the “sketch” to stand out so I changed the color of feathered brush and colored it in. I placed the tracing overtop of the blob of white that was created when I shaded in the tracing. Then I merged the layers. After that, I went back to the image I had opened previously and began the tedious process of opening photos in files, dragging them to the image, resizing them, placing them in the collage, and desaturating them. All of the photos in the image were taken originally bye me. I repeated this process 93 times to complete the collage. Next, I dragged the colored outline on top of the collage, sized, and placed it. Later I decided that I wanted Matt’s shirt to be red but because I had merged him to the white I couldn’t simply make another red layer under is shirt. Instead, I used the magnetic lasso tool to select is shirt and make the outline of his shirt red. After that, I colored overtop of the outline with a red feathered brush with an opacity of about 65%.
The overall meaning of my piece is that the point of destination does not only measure our accomplishments but also by what it takes to get there. The collage of picture represents the struggles that make up the journey we have to face in order to get to our destination. These struggles, although inconvenient, are what allow us to have pride in our accomplishments. The facts that he is running away simply represent the independence necessary to accomplish our goals. Lastly his shirt represents his passion for life and living.

"Art and Violence"
Ally F.
My photo depicts the idea that art has no strings attached, whether it be romanticized or violent, art is pure. Art can easily be described as a census of human emotion, and how it is expressed. Human emotions are raw, and sometimes ghastly to others, but all are beautiful. Art should be viewed with passion and purity, the rawness of the human mind.
To start off my photo, I set up the photos to a wall at the height of my target. I placed them in a scattered order to make them look like blood splatters, except through a more artistic element. I then had my target angle the camera in a way a gun would be angled, as the target was supposed to “shoot himself.” Metaphorically of course, as you would shoot yourself with a camera. After taking this photo, I placed the product into Photoshop and began experimenting with my color theme. I decided a faded theme would suite it best. I then searched royalty free images of ink splatters, layered the image over the photos, and began erasing the areas that covered the pictures, in order to give it a background effect. After this I began to gradiate the splatters in order for it to blend with my background. I did the same thing with the gun silhouette over the camera. I then looked for a royalty free images of the galaxy, and upon picking one, used the hue/saturation tool in order to match the color with the rest of my photo. I placed it over my targets face, and using the eraser and magnetic lasso tool, I cut it to fit the shape and size of my targets head. I then used a gradient tool to help it blend with the rest of the body. Though blending this feature was difficult, I experimented for quite some time on making it look like a part of the original photo, but also causing it to stand out. I used several effects in the Filter tab, using different blends and stylizations tools to give it this effect. Lastly, I inserted my text, a quote by W. Somerset Maugham discussing the violence and passion within art. I used effects in the blending tab such as Bevel and emboss, inner shadowing, pattern overlay, and drop shadow in order to blend it to the rest of my photo. Though I used many tools to blend the photo together, I also had to be mindful of the rawness of my artwork, and keep a chaotic structure.
